- You need 1 cup Kolam Rice
- Use 1/2 cup Red Lentils
- Prepare 1 Onion (Regular) (Finely Chopped)
- Prepare 4 Green Chillies (Finely Chopped)
- Get 1 Tomato (Finely Chopped)
- Provide 1 tsp Ginger Paste
- Get 1 tsp Garlic Paste
- You need 1 tbsp Coriander Leaves (Finely Chopped)
- Provide 1 Sprig Curry Leaves
- Prepare 1/4 tsp Cumin Seeds
- You need as needed Few Peppercorns
- Take 2 Cardamoms
- You need 1 inch Cinnamon Stick
- Use 2 Cloves
- You need pinch Asafoetida
- Prepare 1 Veg Soup Cube
- Use 1/4 tsp Turmeric Powder
- Prepare 1/2 tsp Pepper Powder

Instructions to make Red Lentils Khichdi:
- Heat ghee/oil in a small kadai. Add cumin seeds, cardamoms, cinnamon, cloves, peppercorns and asafoetida.
- Add green chillies and curry leaves and saute for few seconds. Add onions and saute till they are translucent.
- Add ginger paste and garlic paste and saute till the raw smell leaves.
- Add tomatoes and salt and cook till they become soft and mushy.
- Add turmeric powder, pepper powder, cumin powder and garam masala and saute for sometime.
- Add this in a rice steamer with rice, red lentils and water and let it cook till done. ie. For about 12 to 15 minutes. Serve hot with Pickle, Salad, Raita etc.
